Lakes Marina Projects

Completion Date

December 2020

A collaborative project to build a world class lakeside destination.

Queenstown Marina was a collaborative project involving main contractor Fulton Hogan, Bellingham Marine and Naylor Love. The high-value project was to develop a world class lakeside destination and allow for higher quality and safer lake access for both visitors and residents.

Naylor Love oversaw the construction of four buildings on land and six buildings on floating pontoons over the lake. This was completed in two stages.

The first stage started in December 2018 after ground settlement was completed and was finished by mid-2019. We built four single-storey land-based buildings, one public toilet and three retail shops. The buildings were all timber weatherboard clad with gable roofs. We also completed the fitout in one of the shops, the new base for K-Jet.

The second stage was the construction of the floating buildings. This began at the end of 2019 once the concrete pontoon structures were completed. The floating buildings consisted of six sub-dividable base buildings constructed on large concrete pontoons. Building over the lake presented its own challenges, which the team solved by working to lines rather than levels. Careful thought and solutions were put into the changing lake movements, safety working over water and mitigating the pollution risk to water.

The job required consistent communication and coordination between parties to ensure different aspects of the project progressed according to programme and were completed right first time.
